THE COMPETITION

The long awaited inter universities competitions are here. Undergraduates students are given opportunity to represent their universities within Kenya.
Well, sportsmen are seen perfecting their skills and techniques all with the aim of being crowned the best. Practicing based on gut feeling is no longer an option for the competition needs a little more than what an average karateka can offer.
Moi University karate club
Moi university has been left with the task of coming up with the best eight that the school has to offer, for only one team is required to represent Moi in the competitions. With that arising, Moi university karate club from main campus had to take three ladies and five gentlemen for the selection this Saturday to Moi west campus.
We are all eager to see how things will unfold. The competitions are to be held in USIU.  The dates are yet to be confirmed. Let’s support our very own Karate Club.

MOI UNIVERSITY'S GLORY

With anxiety having kicked in and out of the participants that is before and after the Kenya Open. One thing still remains clear and outstanding! They all gave it their best shot. Whether half-backed or fully prepared the participants all gave gave their best owing to the fact that Moi university overall (with satellites) clinched position two out of a total of twenty universities (and colleges) that were in the competition. Speaking after the event, Margret (the cheerleader for team Moi) said that they had a total of 14 medals that made them four trophies less than the winners Kenyatta university. Among the trophies were five gold medals, six silver and three bronze, lacking one gold medal, a silver and and two bronze medals compared to the winners. The Moi team was awarded a 1st runners up prize of a hundred thousand Kenya shillings as motivation. TRAINING LIFE

A well trained karateka has the ability to coordinate mind and body which results to unleashing of tremendous physical strength. If you thought it was a possession of great strength that makes a karateka, you were wrong. Development of this ability makes it possible for the smallest person to deliver a devastating blow to anyone that attacks them. The Moi university karate club never stops practicing the basic techniques as they are the foundation for all that has to come. Training is from Monday to Friday every single week and this shows how serious and committed they are in their art. To perfect their moves and techniques, they have come up with small competitions among themselves to reduce the tension that may occur during the main tournament. ‘’If there is no stress there can be no improvement,’’ said Margret, one of the club members. ANXIETY AS PREPARATIONS RICOCHET

Having been selected to represent their schools in the oncoming Regional Karate competitions, the various participants have had to do a lot more practice bearing the tough competitions. First, the Karate Club (Moi University’s), had to plan so they would have a series of friendlies their counterparts and the other participants in the Karate competitions. According to the club’s leaders Peter Zuma and Margaret Olonyo, the preparations for the friendlies have however been tough considering the fact that there needs to be some budgeting done by the hosts in an event they want tot host any of the teams willing to participate the friendlies with them. But even with the financial hardships, The Moi University team has had a friendly against the team from the University of Nairobi.
